What’s Your Entrepreneurial Personality?

Discovering the Six Adaptotypes

As you may have seen on social media, in my newsletter, or across my website (or written across the sky?), I’ve launched something I’m really excited about: the Adaptotype Quiz — a free entrepreneurial personality quiz designed to help you understand how you lead, adapt, and grow under stress.

I’ve been working on it for a little over six months, and it was borne from a thread of curiosity I couldn’t quite shake; a theme that showed up over and over with my clients and how they were struggling when they arrived for a session.

That theme was discomfort.

It may seem straightforward, but discomfort was consistently underpinning so much of what my clients were doing or not doing in business and the stories they were telling themselves. Those stories often said something like, “I’m not ready yet,” or “I’m an imposter.” Or, feeling like they didn’t deserve success (“It’s so much easier for everyone else,”) would sneak in through a metaphorical back door.

And then I noticed something else: discomfort almost always came paired with overwhelm. This wasn’t just emotional static; it was a true limiting barrier. When overwhelm hit, it pushed my clients into fight-or-flight, narrowing their choices and eroding confidence. That’s when their choices became about survival - surviving the moment, getting through that day, wrapping up a project simply to put it behind them.

So I started asking my clients and fellow entrepreneurs a simple but revealing question:

Illustration of a six-spoke wheel with colorful icons—flame, heart, compass, gear, seed, and eye—radiating from a central hub, on a textured background symbolizing the Adaptotypes framework.

What triggers your overwhelm, and how do you cope with it?

I sat with their answers while also reviewing old client notes, seeing what would rise to the top. And, like one of those Magic Eye images, clear patterns started to emerge, one-by-one.

Those patterns mirrored several things: how people related to their goals, their connections to others, the risks they were avoiding, how much they were thinking through a problem versus feeling their way through it.

And slowly, from those patterns, I identified six core entrepreneurial mindset types.
(Behind the scenes moment: I actually found five at first but on discussing this with friends and colleagues, a sixth emerged out of the mist.)

I named these patterns the Adaptotypes.

These six entrepreneurial personality types don’t just describe how we adapt under pressure, they reveal how we plan, cope, and lead in the face of overwhelm. Each Adaptotype has its strengths and built-in wisdom. But they also come with limitations that can keep us stuck if we aren’t aware of them.

So, this was incredibly thrilling to me and I couldn’t wait to test it out. I beta-tested the quiz and was surprised (and delighted) when I thought I could predict their Adaptotype and found I was wrong. I held back for a month or two before taking it myself and again I was surprised to find that I was, in fact, a Connector and not a Strategist. But, it made sense and revealed something about myself that I already knew deep down.

This was working. I was excited. But, I wanted to offer something to those taking the quiz for the moment after they received their results. Something that would be actionable and not leave quiz-takers with nowhere to go.

So, the quiz results also include insights and suggestions for how to actually navigate these internal patterns. I wanted to provide an offramp towards more ease, a bit of clarity, and hopefully some confidence for the next time something a bit stressful pops up. On top of that, I wrote a personalized one-off newsletter for each Adaptotype that contains guideance on how to harness their internal resources and try something different than the habitual patterns that may feel safe but also keep us limited.

And so, I truly hope you enjoy this quiz. It’s been quite a project and I honestly believe it can open you to new and novel ways of experimenting with the present moment.

As always, take what resonates and leave what doesn’t. This isn’t a box or a label, it’s an invitation to relate to yourself in a new way, especially when things start to feel challenging or crunchy.

Take the Entrepreneur Personality Quiz below and discover your Adaptotype today. I’d love to hear how it lands for you.
