Three Steps to Help You Move Forward

Illustration of a central figure surrounded by fading outlines of past selves—symbolizing the journey from imposter syndrome to authentic confidence.

If you've ever "faked it 'til you make it," you've experienced the power of the Hebbian Principal (what fires together, wires together). It can be a fun, experimental means of stepping into a challenge.

Hopefully, you found yourself saying afterwards, "Oh yes, I can definitely do this," with a new sense of confidence and possibility.

The shadow side, however, is when we feel like an outright fraud — we might feel unworthy, not good/smart enough, and anxious we'll be found out.

As entrepreneurs, we can find ourselves siloing into personas to keep ourselves psychologically safe. There's who you are as a business owner, as a leader, with colleagues, with competitors, and there's who you are in your personal life. This division can bring comfort and control as much as it exhausts and leaves us feeling fragmented.

So, if you’re goal is to go back to the source and realign, there’s a quick and easy exercise you can try.

  • Close your eyes and envision your business two years from now. You're feeling confident, successful, and have clients (and competitors!) that know, respect, and adore the real you.

  • Breathe deep and notice where you are: how the light is slanting in through the windows, what your desk looks like, what the wonderful note from a current client says. Just stay here and notice and trust yourself that this is possible.

  • Now, jot down: what do you really want?

You’ll most-likely receive flashes of images, sensations in your body, memories, and ideas. Your job here is to find the pattern and trust yourself. What stands out? What’s sticking? This is a great and effective way to find your voice and direction and help bring us back to ourselves.
